Difference Between an agent and a coach

VO Coaching vs. VO Agent

I have been thinking about taking a class or coaching from an Agent, a former Agent that teaches, a casting director OR a very well known Voice Over Talent who also Teaches. What do you think?

Certainly a Current Talent Agent can tell you the “do’s” and “don’ts” of how to approach an Agent with a submission. Agents and Casting directors who are currently working and making a living doing their jobs also have their finger on the pulse of what is going on in the industry. However, I know of agents and CD's that “teach”, but mostly they are directing you and not teaching you how to direct yourself when you are at the mic in your own Studio. Directing you and teaching you are two separate things. They also will “teach” at VO Group class workshops — but again, most direct more than teach and some unfortunately show up to those classes to simply make some extra cash.

I do know of one former agent that teaches, and I even will recommend her.

Some Fantastic (and “famous VO actors”) also teach. But please keep in mind: NOT everyone who is great at their profession can TEACH it. Teaching it is a different ballgame entirely.

Being a Full time VO Actor has given me the ability to have my finger on the pulse of what is going on right now. And having earned a Master’s degree has taught me to teach. I do not advertise that I teach VO. People find me organically.
